Well, we’ve been sheltering in place in California for over a month now. That’s not very conducive to collaborating, especially when you are the most creative when the two of you sneak out for gelato or have giggle fits when making your text collages. We’ve managed to stay busy, though. Deb has sewn almost a hundred masks for family and friends, while Kris has been working overtime in her part-time job. Here’s what else has been going on.
In the Studio
Last fall we read that the Surface Design Jounal was soliciting articles for its various departments. They were going to publish an issue on collaboration. We thought to ourselves, they’re speaking our language, so we submitted an article to showcase our studio. Here we are (before social distancing, of course), explaining our process.
It was fun to ask ourselves what the advantages, and, yes, disadvantages were to collaboration. Little did we know that a pandemic would really throw a wrench into our collaborative process. We also had to make sure the timing was right to have the journal appear after our piece on Katherine McCormick was published in the exhibition catalog. Yes, it was disappointing to learn that the premiere of Deeds Not Words: Celebrating 100 Years of Women’s Suffrage has been postponed.
If you’d like to read more about how we created the piece on Katharine McCormick, you can start reading our last blog entry on the project (it has links to all the blog posts).
Teaching
We had already planned to teach our Photoshop Elements beginning series of classes starting April, so the coincidence of sheltering in place and being in front of the computer with all our students has been a silver lining. The PSE1 classroom is closed, but there is still time to enroll in PSE2. Click here for more information.
Here’s another silver lining. We wanted to give back to the community during this strange time. Deb came up with the great idea of offering our PSE Organizer class for free! Now is the perfect time to spend hours in front of your computer, looking over all your photos and organizing them. We have so much fun seeing the photos our students have to share. And it’s a good relive your travels and linger over precious photos of family and friends. Just use our contact form to tell us you want to take the class. Easy, peasy!
