In 2012 we published Furoshiki Fabric Wraps: Simple, Reusable, Beautiful. What an amazing experience. It was a long two years from conception to market, but we loved every minute of creating this book. Deb drew the awesome illustrations while Kris burnt the midnight oil writing the text. Our friend has always said we have complementary skill sets, and she was proven right when we wrote the book. People may ask how our book differs from other books on the market about furoshiki. Well, ours is not simply a how-to book, although we think our instructions and illustrations are the best around, but we also have a section on designing your own furoshiki and an artist gallery.
One great thing about writing this book was the opportunity to work with artists to create their own furoshiki designs. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the following artists for their contributions: Ann Ragland Bowns, Judith Content, Franki Kohler, Carol Larson, Noelle Tamborini-Olson, and Sandra Wagner.
風呂敷 = furoshiki = bath spread. As public baths rose in popularity in Japan, people needed something to wrap their clothes in to go to the baths, hence the bath spread, or furoshiki.
Although the book is now out of print, you can still order the eBook from C&T Publishing ($14.99). We wrote about the dangers of free downloads of our eBook in this blog post.
