It’s Deb, back again with a confession. Nine years ago I took some photographs of my favorite Indiana Jones in his suburban backyard. I just loved his style and attitude. As soon as I saw the image in the lower right, I knew it had to become a quilt.
Of course I had to play with the image in Photoshop. It’s just what I do when I have time on my hands. I probably printed the wild and whacky image on fabric a year later.

Every few years, I would pull out the print and fabric from the Pixeladies’ stash and try to get inspired.

I knew I wanted the quilting to be about what was in Indiana’s mind, not the suburban backyard. The juxtaposition was just too appealing. I would head to the computer and try to come up with a line-drawn scene worthy of the image. I’m not an elaborate quilter, and my quilting skills were not up to my imagination, so I folded up the fabric and put it away.

I even started a Pinterest board just for inspiration for this quilt. That may have made me procrastinate all the more!
2018
By this time I was thinking that I should probably get started on this quilt so I could have it finished for Indiana’s graduation. But now I was starting to wonder if I should piece some parts to add to the quilt. I grabbed some books for inspiration like Rosemary Eichorn’s The Art of Fabric Collage: An Easy Introduction to Creative Sewing, Camille Remme’s Modular Magic: Module Designs for Unique Quilts, and Laura Wasilowski’s Fuse-and-Tell Journal Quilts: Create Your Story in Cloth. Afghani piecing? Modular blocks? Applique? That kind of sewing I can do. Back to the computer and Photoshop to test out some ideas. I just couldn’t make up my mind. Small quilt? Large quilt? Back in the closet it went.

Indiana graduated from high school this year. No, the quilt’s not done. No, it’s not even started. Do you have projects like this? What’s holding you back? I sure hope his college career takes more than four years. Can I make it by 2023? Stay tuned!

Is it confession day? I started a stack & slash ( I think that’s the name) YEARS ago when that was all the rage. The top is almost done, but because i’m not a quilter, it is still “aging” along with too many other UFOs! I chalk it up to being a Gemini, but it may just be too many ideas & not enough follow through. 😁
Is “being a Gemini” a thing? I suffer from that, too! But, Deb, I think graduation should be enough to get you motivated. Just do it! If you don’t like it, you can try again. It’s a photo, after all, and you can re-print it. I’ll admit, I’m a new quilter but I have LOTS of UFOs. I don’t have the right to criticize you. Still, don’t let the opportunity to finish this quilt pass you by. It’ll be so special in so many ways!
But Sally there are just way to many ideas floating around in my mind. I’ll get to it someday 😉
Finish that top and have someone else do the quilting! We have lots of fine long arm quilters in the area that would be happy to do the “hard” work for you. -deb
I love your ideas for the quilt. I do hope you eventually get it started. It will be fantastic!!
Thanks for the encouragement. If I every get it done I will be sure to blog about it. -deb
You forgot to mention this trait when you joined our merry band!! We’ll get you back on track! That quilt will be fantastic when you convince yourself it’s time.
