As Deb mentioned in our last post, it’s time again to start dreaming about the perfect art collection in the form of six amazing 12″ x 12″ art quilts from the annual SAQA Benefit Auction (Sep 17 – Oct 7). Deb actually posted not one, but two dream collections. I, on the other hand, have been just too indecisive (there are a lot of wonderful artworks up for bid), so I decided to start with a mission. I find portraiture very intriguing and very difficult to pull off. Could I find six portraits that I loved and that “played” well together? Indeed, I did not find many portraits, but I did find several that caught my attention. I decided on a collection I call “Let Me Tell You What’s On My Mind.”
The Eyes Have It
Whether they are looking to the right, to the left, or straight on, all these portraits invite you to see what they’re seeing. I was less interested in technique than I was in the overall emotion that each work evoked. I would love to have these women (yes, I purposely decided to limit the collection to portraits of women) adorn my wall and beg me to let them tell me their stories.
Artist Information
I hope this dream collection sparks your interest in looking more closely at these artists’ work. In order, from left to right:
Keri Bas, Portrait of Jenny in ‘Cabaret’
Judith Quinn Garnett, Eve
Sharon Buck, The Muse VS The Deadline
Geneviève Attinger, The Little Queen of Hearts
Karol Kusmaul, Faith
Virginia Greaves, Sideways Glance
