This is Deb, back with another Tech Tuesday episode. In addition to Expert and Quick modes, Photoshop Elements (PSE) has a guided mode. It will walk you through, step by step, creating some fun special effects with your photos. If you open the Editor in PSE 2019 and click on the Guided tab just below the Menu bar, you’ll be presented with a bunch options.
Out of Bounds Guided Edit
I had fun playing with the Out of Bounds guided edit. In honor of yesterday’s Memorial Day holiday, I decided to try this effect on a photo I took of the Missing Man formation flown by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels at the California Capital Airshow in Sacramento. This touching maneuver is performed to honor fallen pilots. Here is the original photo.
If you follow the instructions for the Out of Bounds effect you can make the missing man jet fly out of a frame you create.
Expert Mode
After you complete the instructions, you can save the image, or you can continue editing it in expert mode. The initial selections and adjustment layers have already been created for you.
Once you open the image in the Expert mode, your options are unlimited. You can adjust the colors, change the opacity of the layers, and add your own text. Here’s my version after playing a bit more.
Out of Bounds Guided Edit – Sports Example
This effect is also fun with sports photographs. Here are some screenshots showing the Out of Bounds guided edit with a soccer photo. First you have the original.
Then you have the image after choosing what will go “out of bounds.”
Fnially you have the finished piece. I ended up with this over-the-top, out-of-the-box photo of my granddaughter. Very quick! Pretty simple!
I encourage you to try some of these guided special effects. If you want to learn more about the expert mode, it’s not too late to sign up for our Pixeladies Photoshop Elements Essentials classes. Click here for more information and to register.
