Black
5 years ago we wrote a post about fabric printing services. Here’s an excerpt:
Let’s face it, we would send our file in a handwritten letter to the company and have it delivered by Pony Express if they could print a decent black. Black makes all other colors pop, so if the company doesn’t print a good black, then it seems like everything else looks muddy. This is Spoonflower’s great failing, but at least they tell us on their website that they don’t get a deep black. Both Fabric on Demand and Dpi get good blacks, so we would be splitting hairs to pick. Kris deferred to Deb, and Deb says it’s a tie.
Black is still our gold standard when it comes to printing. For many years, Spoonflower.com just didn’t have a decent black. Well, we are here to tell you they’ve got it now! Look at these blacks (Spoonflower is in the middle)!
Spoonflower
When we stopped printing our own fabric, we had to make a printing decision about which service to use. I’m happy to report that we have had Spoonflower print a couple of things for us and we are smitten.
The colors in Deb’s self-portrait were great. The shrinkage estimate was spot on. [Hey, Kris! We can do a blog post about resizing images to deal with shrinkage, or we can just tell people now to sign up for our Photoshop Elements Essentials classes that start on September 9, 2019. But I digress.] And it stitched up nicely. We had them print our next project (see the first image for a sneak peek), and some of Kris’ family crests (below). And I, Deb, just sent off another order last night. Yep, Spoonflower gets Pixeladies’ seal of approval.
