Woohoo! Another 15 minutes of fame. Well, really 24 minutes and 54 seconds. Our friend and colleague, Lisa Walton, has created a series of videos called Quilt Stories where she chats with quilters and artists about one of their quilts.
Lisa’s talks include traditional quilters and art quilters from all over the world. Deb has really enjoyed listening to the stories told by Rosalie Dace from South Africa, Jenny Bowker from Australia, and Ricky Tims from USA, among others. It’s fascinating to listen to the artist talk in-depth about one quilt. You get to hear about the inspirations, the techniques, and even the “that didn’t work out how I thought it would” stories.
Our Interview
Lisa recently interviewed us! That was a fun conversation. We talked about Katharine McCormick: Making her Mark. KDM, as we like to call her, is part of an exhibit on Women’s Suffrage that was supposed to premiere at the National Quilt Museum in April 2020. We can guess you know that that didn’t happen. KDM is now hanging with the rest of the Deeds not Words exhibit, waiting for the New England Quilt Museum to reopen. So, if you’re not traveling anywhere soon, check out our chat with Lisa here. You can read about our progress on this piece here.
If you don’t know Lisa, she is, like Kris, a former president of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA). She is also a talented artist, teacher, foodie, and just an all-around good person. Deb has the good fortune of knowing Lisa through her art and writing with the group Cloth in Common. One of Lisa’s recent art quilts for Cloth in Common, Masks, incorporates fabric pleated like the coronavirus masks people are currently wearing.
Based in Australia, Lisa travels the world giving textile tours, too. We want the world to get back to “normal” so we can meet up with Lisa in person again. Until then, we’ll have to chat with Lisa via Zoom. We hope you enjoy the interview as much as we did making it. Thanks, Lisa, for thinking of us!

Very interesting description of how you did that special quilt. You two are
certainly creative. Love your quilts.
Thanks for watching, Judy. Lisa has lots of other great videos. You might enjoy the one with Martha Wolfe, too.
