You’re our friends and our family. You read our blog and follow us on Facebook because you a) like our art, b) were once students of ours, c) you really are related to us, and we made you do it, or d) just happened upon our blog and Facebook pages one day and thought “why not?” Well, you can always find out what we’re doing by reading our blog, but as a Facebook user, you have gotten used to scrolling through your news feed, knowing that if anything exciting was happening with the Pixeladies, they’d post it. That’s still true, but Facebook spent big bucks paying computer geeks to write some fancy algorithms to only put stuff on your news feed Facebook thinks you want to read. In reality that means business pages such as ours find themselves in Facebook purgatory. You see, Pixeladies (as well as a number of our artist-friends’ “business pages”) are a literal goldmine for Facebook. FB wants to charge us for showing up on your news feed. Even if you “liked” us and became fans, that’s no longer enough. It’s not that we want to begrudge Facebook for earning money from companies who want to advertise with them, but unless you as a FB user do some tweaking on your FB account, you won’t see many struggling artists’ pages anymore. Instead, your news feed is peppered with “suggested posts” from nice “friends” like “Knitting Club” (no disrespect to Knitting Club, but it’s just scary how FB knows Kris likes to knit). There are a few things you can do to help ensure that our page (as well as the other pages you’ve “liked”) appears on your news feed:
- Click “like” or “share” when you see our posts. Those “likes” and “shares” get added into those algorithms we mentioned above.
- If you don’t see our posts on your news feed, go directly to our Facebook page and make sure you’ve “liked” us.
- Next to the word “liked” (it’s inside the block with our cover image) is a small arrow. Click on the arrow next to the word “Liked” and make sure “Get Notifications” is checked. We’ll promise not to inundate you with posts. Here’s a photo of this area:
- Get the word out to your friends. Share this post (via Facebook) with them. Of course, many of your friends probably aren’t getting your posts in their news feeds either, so go to their pages and do the same procedure as above.
We can fight these Facebook algorithms and stay in touch with you all by being a little more attentive to the details, but we need your help. Thanks!
