WOOHOO! California is opening, so you can now visit our Katharine McCormick piece “live” at the Visions Museum in San Diego! “Katharine McCormick: Making Her Mark” is part of the exhibition entitled “Deed Not Words: Celebrating 100 Years of Women’s Suffrage,” which will be at the museum through July 3.
Visions Museum
Founded in 1983, the Visions Museum’s mission is to “create an international community of quilt and textile artists, collectors and the public through exhibitions, education, and engaging programs that increase the appreciation of quilts, textiles and fiber as fine art.” We’re grateful to venues like Visions for making space for artists who work in our medium. They are paving the way to the acceptance of what we do is art. If you are unable to get to San Diego by July 3, we have a couple of alternatives to recommend.
Alternative 1
Take the virtual tour of the exhibit. (Yes, we are a bit giddy that our piece is the front still for the video!)
Alternative 2
Plan a visit to the Visions Museum anytime between July 17 -October 3 to see “Raw, Reassembled and Ready” by Paula Kovarik. We think Paula is just a fabulous artist and worthy of a special trip to see her art. In fact, that’s what we did in 2019, when we went to Memphis for a wedding. We got a wonderful studio tour!
Alternative 3
Watch the Textile Talk about the exhibition. Textile talks are sponsored by a consortium of fiber arts organizations. You can get the schedule here. We moderated the this particular talk and blogged about it here.
Alternative 4
Listen to the interview Lisa Walton did with us about our piece on KDM, as we fondly call her. We blogged about this experience here. You should check out the other interviews Lisa has conducted with other artists. They are just great! View the list of quilt stories here.
Read about our piece and the creative journey we took to bring it to fruition.
Alternative 5

Hope you enjoy getting out to the museums, if you can. The Pixeladies are planning their first museum trip next week! We can’t wait.
